Sonya has been teaching movement for more than 20 years, first ballet and then Pilates. She is a certified instructor through both PhysicalMind Institute in New York and Pilates Method Alliance, and was also a faculty member in Mercury Fitness’ Pilates certification program.
Sonya studied Anatomy, Biomechanics and Dance injury prevention while obtaining her BFA degree at National Institute of the Arts in Taiwan and her MFA degree at University of Arizona. Prior to Pilates, Sonya toured the world as a professional dancer since the age of 14 and was a lead dancer with Ballet Oklahoma for many years. She discovered Pilates after surgery for a severe hip injury which she rehabilitated with Pilates.
Sonya has studied body mechanics since she was a dancer and continues to advance her knowledge through professional seminars and studying with other master trainers, and she strives to make positive impact to her clients’ lives by improving their body conditioning through Pilates.
Sonya is fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese and enjoys ballet and Muay Thai kick boxing in her spare time.
